Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc. announced today that its 10th Anniversary Signature Event would be held at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County on June 13, 2015.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event back where it all started at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve,” said Jim Hoy, Board Chair for Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc. “Our milestone anniversary and this historic location lend themselves to help us further our mission of heightening appreciation and knowledge of the tallgrass prairie. We plan to take it a step further with the theme, ‘Grasslands of the World,’ and The Nature Conservancy as our partner for the education programs.”
Rob Manes, Director of The Nature Conservancy of Kansas, touts the importance of the Symphony to his organization’s mission: “We are all about using good science and collaboration to conserve the lands and waters that are most important to nature and to people. The Symphony in the Flint Hills represents one of the most powerful venues for telling people about the ecological, economic and cultural importance of the tallgrass prairie.” The Conservancy’s Board Chair Patty Reece added, “We are delighted to offer the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve as the ideal spot for the 10th anniversary Symphony site.”
The Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event debuted in 2006 at the Preserve and has moved to a different site within the Flint Hills every year since. This is the first time the event has returned to the same location.
“We are grateful to the National Park Service for having us back,” said Christy Davis, Executive Director of Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc. “Today also marks a significant event for both the National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy – November 12, 2014 is the anniversary of the legislation that created the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.”
As in past years, the Governor of Kansas will serve as honorary chair and the Kansas City Symphony will perform the sunset concert. The event leverages more than 6,000 volunteer hours.
Tickets for the 2015 Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7. General admission tickets are $90 for adults and $50 for children under 12, and can be purchased online at kcsymphony.org and by phone at 816-471-0400. A limited number of Patron Packages are available for those who want to financially support the organization while experiencing the event from a premium vantage point.
