SFH Hosting Online Art Auction

For the first time, Symphony in the Flint Hills’ Prairie Art Exhibit and Silent Auction will be online and open to the public.

“High winds during our event caused us to seek an alternative that would be safer for the art,” said Executive Director Christy Davis. “We are thrilled to partner with KC Auction Company to take our auction online.”

Forty-six paintings by 31 artists were selected through a juried process earlier this year. The pieces must thematically or geographically reference the beauty of the Flint Hills.

“We are proud of how the Prairie Art Exhibit has grown over the years and at the level of talent and support we have from artists and buyers throughout the U.S.,” said Louise Carlin, Merchandise/Art Manager for Symphony in the Flint Hills.

When a piece of art is sold through the auction, the artist will receive half (50%) of the total auctioned price and the remaining half (50%) is considered a donation to Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. Proceeds from the art auction help support the organization’s mission to enhance appreciation for the Kansas Flint Hills.

Bidders can view the original artwork at the Symphony in the Flint Hills’ gallery, 331 Broadway, Cottonwood Falls. The gallery is open weekdays at 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The gallery will also be open for a special viewing on Sunday, June 29 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. or by appointment. Bidders can view photographs of the artwork and bid online at kcauctioncompany.com. The bidding will run for two weeks, through 3:00 p.m. July 9, 2014.
