SFH to Host Prairie Photography Exhibition

Cottonwood Falls, Kan. – Symphony in the Flint Hills will celebrate the opening of its 2016 Prairie Photography Juried Exhibition on Saturday, March 12 at 1:30 p.m. in their Cottonwood Falls gallery. The public is invited to attend.

The exhibition will feature the work of photographers who submitted entries earlier this year. There were 65 entries representing artists from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Indiana. The images thematically or graphically reference the Flint Hills of Kansas. This year, the work was juried by Larry Schwarm, Professor of Photography at Wichita State University.

“It was an honor to be able to look at the many excellent photographs of the Flint Hills submitted for Prairie Photography Exhibit and Auction,” said Schwarm. “Selecting work to be included for exhibition proved to be very difficult. My goal was to include a variety of images that had artistic merit and expressed the many aspects of the land.”

The opening event will include a performance by the Kansas City Symphony Ensemble, the distribution of photography awards and an exhibit of the 36 photographs selected by Schwarz. Tickets will also be on sale for the 2016 Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event.

“My selections were largely based on my own experiences with the land, and these photographs remind us of how lucky we are to have this unique landscape in our state,” said Schwarm.

The 2016 Prairie Photography Exhibit will be on display at the Symphony in the Flint Hills Gallery from March 12 – April 12. The photography will be auctioned online from March 21 through April 12 at www.kcauctioncompany.com. For more information, please call 620-273-8955.
