Symphony in the Flint Hills will celebrate the opening of its 2016 Prairie Art Juried Exhibition on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 1:30 in its Cottonwood Falls gallery at 331 Broadway. The public is invited to attend.
Each year, Symphony in the Flint Hills showcases the work of artists who capture the beauty of the Flint Hills. This year, 83 entries were submitted and 42 paintings were selected for the exhibition. The work was co-juried by Dr. Stephanie Knappe and Issac Logsdon, curators of American Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
“[The winning] painting … swiftly and fully transported me from a darkened, windowless basement conference room to the … Flint Hills – that most moving and most thoroughly ‘Kansas’ of places – precisely where I longed to be,” said Juror Dr. Stephanie Knappe.
The opening reception on Saturday will feature local food, drinks and music in addition to activities for all ages. Participants can try their hands at landscape painting with guidance from local artist Peggy Lyon. Other art openings will also be taking place Saturday at Pioneer Bluffs and The Bank in Matfield Green.
The 2016 Prairie Art Exhibit will be on display at the Symphony in the Flint Hills Gallery and auctioned at the Signature Event on June 11. For more information, please call 620-273-8955.
